Dave Brooks scored a season-high 25 points today to lead Navy over Army, 62-59. It was the Midshipmen's first basketball victory here since 1973.

Navy will risk its three-game winning steak Thursday in the opening round of the ECAC South tournament in Norfolk. The opponent hasn't been determined yet.

Brooks, who led all scorers, had 15 points in the second half as Navy (12-13) expanded a 24-20 halftime lead to 51-40 with 7:48 to go.

Army (5-21) pulled within 53-51 on Brad Green's short jump shot with 2:40 left. But Navy kept making foul shots. Rob Romaine, who finished with 14 points, made four in the final 2:12. Brooks and Gary Price each made two and Jim Kuzma one.

The Cadets outscored Navy from the field, 24-23, but the Midshipmen won the game at the foul line, making 16 of 22. Army made 11 of 12.

Navy's Gary Price, one of two ECAC South players of the week last week, had 18 points and eight rebounds. Center Myron Simons of Navy had a game-high 13 rebounds. Dennis Schlitt led Army with 22 points
