Earvin (Magic) Johnson scored 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, passed out 12 assists and had five steals as Los Angeles won in Inglewood, Calif., taking a 2-0 series lead over Phoenix in their best-of-seven NBA playoff series.

The third game in the Western Conference semifinals is scheduled Friday night and the fourth game is slated Sunday afternoon, both at Phoenix.

The Lakers led nearly all the way, but the Suns drew to within four points at 69-65 midway through the third quarter. However, Los Angeles put the game away by outscoring Phoenix, 22-10, over the final 6:07 of the period to take a 91-75 advantage entering the final 12 minutes.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar led a balanced Los Angeles offense with 24 points. Norm Nixon added 21, while Jamaal Wilkes joined Johnson with 19. Dennis Johnson led the Suns with 27 points, 17 of them in the second quarter.

The Suns were without forward Truck Robinson in the second half. Robinson had six points and six rebounds while playing 18 minutes of the first half but was held out after that because of illness. A team spokesman said he suffered a case of food poisoning after Tuesday night's first game of the series, won by the Lakers, 115-96.
