Georgetown's John Gregorek won the 800-meter run in 1:49.41 in the Big East Conference outdoor championship at Villanova. Georgetown's Brian McNellis finished third in that event at 1:49.83; followed by teammates Richard Caton, fourth in 1:51.17, and Phil Reilley, fifth at 1:52.53. Georgetown finished last in the team standings, 28. Connecticut won the team title with 122, followed by Seton Hall, 120; Villanova, 114; Syracuse, 92; St. John's, 64; Boston College, 42, and Providence, 37.

Derrick Peynado of Seton Hall was the meet's outstanding performer, winning the 400 meters in a meet record 46.63, the 400 intermediate hurdles in 51:01, and running a 45.4 anchor in the 1,600 in which the Pirates finished second.

In Hanover, N.H., August Wolf won the shot put and discus as Princeton had six first place finishes while registering their second straight Heptagonals outdoor title. Princeton had 75 1/2 points, followed by Navy, 48, and host Dartmouth, 39 1/2.

Navy winners were Leo Williams in the high jump (7- 1/2); Bill Kovach in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:54.8), and Willie Hosch in the 200-meter dash (21.1).
