Georgetown University's crew qualified for the semifinals of the varsity heavyweight eight championship in the 44th annual Dad Vail Regatta today on the Schuylkill.

Rowing in ideal weather with a slight tail wind, Georgetown finished third in its qualifying heat in 6:12.4 over 2,000 meters. Marietta College, which won the heat by a half length over the University of Western Ontario, was timed in 6:08.1.

George Washington University failed to qualify, finishing fourth in its heat in 6:21.5. Temple won the heat in 6:04.5.

The Naval Academy women's varsity eight qualified for the semifinals with a second-place finish in its heat with 7:13.6.

Georgetown qualified in its heat in the women's freshmen novice eight in 7:10.5. Georgetown, however, failed to qualify in the men's junior varsity eight, as was the case with George Washington, each finishing fourth in its heat. Georgetown clocked 6:27.7, George Washington 6:31.

Virginia failed to qualify for the semifinals of the varsity lightweight eight, taking fourth place in 6:30.9. Georgetown failed in its heat, finishing fourth in 6:30.4.

Georgetown went to the semifinals of the men's lightweight four with a second-place finish in its heat in 7:11.9.

Virginia qualified third for the women's four semifinals in 8:33.7. GW failed in its heat, finishing fourth in 8:39.4.

Georgetown and Virginia failed to reach the semifinals of the men's four with fifth-place finishes.

Georgetown also qualified for the semifinals in the women's varsity eight by finishing second in its heat in 7:08.7, trailing Mount Holyoke, 7:05.8, by three-quarters of a length.
