Brent Friehauf pitched a five-hitter and hit a two-run home run to lead Bowie over Potomac, 10-1, yesterday in the first round of the Maryland Class AA Region II baseball playoffs. It was the Bulldogs' 41st straight victory.

Bowie (19-0) had nine hits and scored in every inning but the second. Friehauf (9-0), who struck out nine and walked none, also drove in three runs and scored twice. Shortstop John Krivak went two for three, including a double, and scored two runs.

In other playoff games, pitcher Dave Schalmo struck out seven and went two for four with two RBI as host Paint Branch defeated Kennedy, 9-2, in the first round of the Class A Region II playoffs.

Schalmo (6-2) allowed seven hits and walked three. The Panthers (13-4) also were led on offense by Blake Wood, who went three for four with a triple, and right fielder Jim Folstrom, who drove in two runs.

In Class AA Region IV, Westminster won at Severna Park, 6-1.

Bad weather and poor field conditions forced postponement of the remainder of yesterday's playoff games. The Metro Conference championship game between McNamara and O'Connell will be played this afternoon at 3:30 at the University of Maryland. The best-of-three series is tied.

In Class AA games today, Seneca Valley will host Gaithersburg at 3 p.m. in a Region I contest and Eleanor Roosevelt will visit Friendly at 3 in Region II.

In Class A Region II, Sherwood will host Northwood at 3:15. In Class B Region I, Northwood will play at Frederick at 3.
