Manny Sarmiento (4-1) was the winner with 4 2/3 innings of three-hit relief pitching. Rod Scurry, who gave up an eighth-inning homer to Paul Householder, and Kent Tekulve also pitched for the Pirates, with Tekulve gaining his 13th save.

A 21-year-old woman was pronounced dead on arrival at General Hospital after she reportedly jumped from the top deck at Riverfront Stadium, Reds spokesman Jim Ferguson said. Paramedics worked on the woman for several minutes. Ferguson said witnesses in the upper deck reported that the woman, identified as Lora Schneeman of Montgomery, Ohio, made a "head-first dive" over the railing and landed some 35 feet below. "She apparently had been drinking and left behind a container of liquor," Ferguson said.$130 Picture, Dave Cincepcion of the Reds is safe at home on a sacrafice fly by Paul Householder.
