Mike Quade hit a two-run triple and scored a run and Joe Orsulak added a two-run homer as the Alexandria Dukes defeated the Durham Bulls, 5-2, last night as 1,366 watched the final home game of the regular season at Four Mile Run Park.
Fernando Gonzales pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing only one unearned run, to notch his team-leading 13th victory. Wilfrido Cordoba finished up and earned his 10th save.
The Dukes scored three runs in the bottom of the third. Andy Snaith singled and was forced at second by Brian DeValk. Marvin Clack walked, moving DeValk to second. Quade drove in both with a line drive that eluded center fielder Danny Mann for a triple. Quade then scored on a sacrifice fly by Rick Renteria.
Durham scored two runs in the top of the fourth. Steve Chmil singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tommy Thompson. Miguel Sosa delivered an RBI single. Sosa stole second and scored when a ground ball off the bat of Bryan Neal skipped through the legs of second baseman Renteria.
In the fourth, Jim Felt walked and Orsulak unloaded a one-strike pitch from starter John Mortillaro over the right field fence.
The Bulls threatened in the top of the eighth. Thompson walked and moved to second on a single by Sosa. Gonzales struck out Neal, but was replaced by Cordoba after yielding two consecutive balls to Joe Lorenz. Lorenz then grounded into a double play to Quade at third.
