Orby Z. Moss Jr., University of District of Columbia's athletic director for the last four years, will leave UDC for a similar position at North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro, N.C., effective Sept. 10.

In a press release announcing his departure, Moss cited "family and financial considerations that make it the best thing to do at this time. My only real regret was that this decision comes so late, but A & T only informed me of their decision late last week.

"North Carolina A & T is a Division I school in the MEAC (along with Howard University) with tremendous facilities, a strong national alumni organization and many other strong factors. In fact, there are too many pluses to turn this opportunity down."

Moss came to UDC in 1978 from Sienna Heights College in Adrian, Mich., and one of his first actions was to hire Wil Jones as men's basketball coach. UDC won last season's Division II NCAA national basketball championship.

A university spokesman said yesterday that Emma Best, the present assistant athletic director for women's programs, and Ted Vactor, assistant athletic director for men's programs and head football coach, are being considered for the vacated post.
