Coach Jerry Claiborne dismissed junior tailback Pete Venable from Kentucky's football team today for disciplinary reasons. Claiborne would not elaborate on the dismissal of Venable, a starter who carried 17 times for 83 yards against Kansas State last weekend . . .

In Pasadena, Calif., an operation lasting nearly five hours has been performed on Long Beach State football player Todd Hart, who remains paralyzed after suffering a broken neck Saturday in a game against UCLA. The operation was described as a cervical laminectomy, designed to stabilize the injury by realigning the vertebrae in the neck. Hart, 19, remained in serious condition. He is paralyzed from the neck down but has regained some slight sensation in his arms and legs.
