Georgetown announced a 29-game, regular-season basketball schedule yesterday, which features a Thanksgiving trip to Hawaii for two games and 15 home games at Capital Centre, including dates with Virginia, American and De Paul.
Georgetown, last year's NCAA runner-up, will not play George Washington for the first time since 1937. Frank Rienzo, Georgetown's director of athletics, said yesterday he will "take full responsibility" for Georgetown not scheduling GW, and added he hopes to resume the series next year.
Georgetown, which said previously it could not find an available date to play GW because of the addition of Pitt as the ninth team in the Big East Conference, also will play Morgan State, Alabama State and Division II Monmouth College, a New Jersey school.
For the first time, all of Georgetown's Big East road games will be played in large, off-campus arenas, except at Syracuse, where the Carrier Dome holds 30,000.
The Hoyas will play Boston College at the Boston Garden, Villanova at the Palestra in Philadelphia, and Seton Hall in Byrne Arena at the Meadowlands. They open the conference season against St. John's on Jan. 8 at Madison Square Garden.
The Hoyas play Virginia on Dec. 11 at Capital Centre.
