Brian Mullen and Craig Levie scored two goals each and Ed Staniowski notched his first shutout of the season as Winnipeg won in Detroit.

The Jets ran up a 3-0 lead in the first period with rookie Mullen opening the scoring at 6:43. Thomas Steen scored from a scramble in front of Detroit goalie Giles Gilbert at 7:34 and Dave Christian upped the Winnipeg lead to 3-0, firing a low 50-footer past Gilbert on a power play at 8:45.

Levie notched his pair in the second period, grabbing his own rebound at 3:51 and was the trigger man on a three-way passing play with Dale Hawerchuk and Mullen at 11:10.

Jerry Butler picked up a misplay by Detroit's Jim Schoenfeld and went in alone to beat Detroit goalie Greg Stefan with the sixth goal at 7:34 of the third period. Stefan had replaced Gilbert at 17:11 of the second period when a blast from Willie Lindstrom split the Detroit goalie's mask and bruised his right cheekbone.

Mullen's second goal came on a two-man breakaway with Hawerchuk at 9:33 and Lindstrom completed the rout, firing Paul MacLean's rebound high past Stefan with 40 seconds remaining.
