Quarterback Jeff Hostetler ran three yards for a touchdown with 28 seconds left in yesterday's game at Morgantown to give 16th-ranked West Virginia a 20-13 victory over No. 19 Boston College.

The touchdown was set up when Boston College cornerback George Radachowsky fumbled a fair catch on a punt and Tom Bowman recovered to give the Mountaineers (4-1) the ball on the 14 of the Eagles (3-1-1).

"They (the coaches) have told me that someday the special teams will win a game and today is a good example," said Bowman. "It's the best feeling I've ever had . . ."

Midway through the third period, WVU linebacker Steve Hathaway pressured quarterback Doug Flutie into throwing a hurried pass that was intercepted by tackle Todd Campbell, who ran into the end zone. But the ball was put back at the 22 by a holding penalty.

Hostetler passed to Tom Gray for 19 yards, an offsides penalty on the next play moved the ball to the one and Gray scored, the extra point making it 13-6. In the last period, BC set up for a field goal from the seven, but holder John Loughery passed to Steve Nizolek in the end zone with 8:25 left and the point-after tied the score at 13.
