NCAA investigators has conducted on-campus interviews at the University of Kansas, Athletic Director Monte Johnson confirmed. NCAA procedures call for a notice of official inquiry before a formal investigation is started . . .

In a story in the Kansas City Times, John Hadl confirmed his interest in becoming the Jayhawks' next head football coach. Hadl is a former Kansas all-America quarterback who is now an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League . . .

Football Coach Mike White has denied rumors that he will leave Illinois for a career in pro ball, saying he does not plan "to pursue any pro coaching opportunity." White, who has a 17-15-1 record in his three years at Illinois, has been the focus of much speculation about his intentions.

In a statement Friday night after returning from a week on the West Coast, White said he had discussed a job with the Arizona Wranglers of the new USFL franchise, but told them he was not interested. He said he had not been involved in discussions with the Los Angeles Rams.
