Tim Carr scored on a 10-foot jump shot with one second remaining to give Delaware a 54-52 victory over Navy today before 1,700 at Halsey Field House.

The win raises the Blue Hens' record to 5-4. Navy, which has lost three straight but had not played in three weeks, fell to 5-4.

Carr, a 6-foot-10 center who finished with 13 points, rebounded a missed 30-footer by teammate Tim Tompkins.

Delaware dominated the first half, as Tompkins hit his first three shots and the Blue Hens shot 62 percent from the field. Trailing by as many as nine points late in the half, Navy used a 5-2 spurt in the final minute and a half to pull within six at intermission, 30-24.

The Midshipmen, who shot only 35 percent from the field, pulled even at 38 on a one-handed jumper by Gary Price with 14:49 remaining. The score was tied four more times, the last at 52 when Navy's Rob Romaine hit two free throws with 14 seconds remaining.

Tompkins sank nine of 15 from the floor and led all scorers with 18 points. Cliff Maurer and Dave Brooks had 12 points each for Navy.
