Reggie Henderson of George Mason won the 400-meter dash in 46.7 and the Patriots' mile relay team ran a 3:10.7 to highlight the Eastman Invitational that ended Saturday at East Tennessee State.
Henderson and the mile relay team of Tommy Lovelace, Ron George, Henderson and John Parker had nation-leading times. The mile relay team ran half a second off the world indoor track best for that event.
Earlier in the season, Parker, a freshman from Calvert High School, ran a national best this year in the 300-meter dash with a time of 34.1 . . .
Jerome Carter, a freshman at Harford Community College, easily cleared 7 feet 7 to win the high jump yesterday in the Father Diamond Invitational at George Mason . . .
The Howard men's and women's teams won the 1,600-meter relays in the 24th annual East Coast Invitational in Richmond; the men in 3:19, the women in 3:52.5. Deborah Murphy of HU won the 500 meters in 1:18.2 . . . Alda Cossi of D.C. Capital Track Club won the 1,000 meters in 3:03.7 with Marcelle Gooding of UDC third in 3:09.6. Maryland finished one-two in the women's long jump, Tomi Rucker clearing 19-8 1/2, Tamela Penny 19-4.
Rodney Giles, a senior at Northern High School in Calvert County, Md., will compete in the mile at the Wanamaker Millrose Games Jan. 28 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Giles recently ran a 4:13.7 to qualify for the meet.
