Team America gave up three goals in a 27-minute span midway through the first half and lost to the Tampa Bay Rowdies, 3-0, in a scrimmage today.
Team America, which had beaten the University of Tampa, 6-1, Monday, is scheduled to play the University of South Florida Thursday.
Tampa Bay scored first at 11 minutes when Mark Karpun stole a pass from midfielder Perry Van Der Beck and fed Marcelino Oliviera in the box. Oliviera easily beat goalkeeper Winston DuBose, who gave up all three goals, to the short side.
The Rowdies made it 2-0 seven minutes later when Karpun scored off a free-kick pass from Juan Carlos Morina. Tatu scored the third goal at 38 minutes on an eight-yard shot from the right side.
The Rowdies, who have four players (Van Der Beck, Arnie Mausser, Pedro DeBrito and Glenn Myernick) trying out for Team America, held a 16-10 advantage in shots and dominated the first half.
Team America's best scoring opportunity came early in the second half when DeBrito broke in from the right side, but his 15-yard shot was stopped by Mausser at the near post. Mausser was "loaned" to the Rowdies to get playing time.
