Paul Cyr's 25-footer with 10 seconds left earned the Buffalo Sabres a 4-4 tie with the New Jersey Devils last night in East Rutherford, N.J.

New Jersey took a 4-2 lead into the third period, but Gilles Hamel's second goal of the game, from 25 feet, made it 4-3 at 4:30 of the final period.

The tie extended New Jersey's winless streak to eight games.

New Jersey took a 2-0 lead at 5:36 of the game. Don Lever scored a short-handed goal at 2:46 of the first period, putting in a rebound of his own shot, and Paul Gagne put a 15-footer over the shoulder of goaltender Jacques Cloutier. Cloutier was replaced by Bob Sauve after Gagne's goal.

Hamel's first goal at 6:39 of the opening period and Tony McKegney's score early in the second period tied the game. McKegney got his 25th goal of the season at 6:22 on a power play when he deflected Dale McCourt's 50-foot shot at goaltender Chico Resch.
