Christmas Past, the 6-to-5 favorite, caught Crafty Prospector in the final strides to win the $186,050 Gulfstream Park Handicap yesterday in Hallandale, Fla.

Rivalero finished third, three-quarters of a length back, before a crowd of 19,708.

Christmas Past, 4, the only filly in the 12-horse field, was ridden by Jorge Velasquez. She ran the mile and a quarter in 2:02 3/5 and paid $4.60.

Christmas Past was 10th turning into the backstretch as Bar Dexter held the lead, with Crafty Prospector second and Double Leader third. Going to the far turn, Rivalero moved into third on the outside as Christmas Past began her move, also on the outside.

Crafty Prospector took the lead at the top of the stretch, with Rivalero a neck behind. At the 16th pole, Christmas Past, still outside, caught Crafty Prospector and edged him at the wire.

The winner won six of 11 starts and earned $43,960 last year. Yesterday's victory, her second of the year, was worth $111,630 . . .

Hail Emperor held off Appeal Approved by a head to win the $57,700 Native Dancer Handicap at Bowie Race Course. With Vince Bracciale aboard, Hail Emperor took the lead rounding the final turn and maintained it through the stretch to complete a mile and one sixteenth in 1:46. Boston Tea finished third, another two lengths back . . .

Chieftan's Command won the $54,800 Next Move Handicap at Aqueduct, scoring by a nose over Noble Damsel. Pert followed a neck behind.
