Enos Cabell drove in three runs with three doubles and a single and Alan Trammell hit his second homer of the year as Detroit got 18 hits in Texas.

The Tigers managed eight extra-base hits, including seven doubles. Jack Morris (4-5), who worked the first seven innings, allowing eight hits and one run. He struck out seven and walked two.

Lou Whitaker started a three-run first with a single, moved to second on Cabell's ground out, stole third and scored on a two-out wild pitch by Mike Smithson (3-4). Lance Parrish doubled and Glenn Wilson walked. Rick Leach singled in Parrish and Wilson also scored on the play when right fielder Larry Parrish bobbled the ball.

Detroit added three runs in the second. Trammell homered with one out and Cabell and Kirk Gibson had consecutive doubles.

Lance Parrish's sacrifice fly off reliever Jon Matlack in the fourth made it 7-0. The Tigers got five runs off former teammate Dave Tobik in the seventh. Cabell doubled in two runs, Gibson tripled in another, Lance Parrish singled one and Wilson doubled in the final run.

The Rangers scored in the fourth on Bucky Dent's two-out RBI single.
