Jimmy Jordan passed for 223 yards and four touchdowns against Birmingham and Gary Anderson had his first 100-yard rushing performance as a pro before a Tampa Stadium crowd of 35,623--about 4,000 below Tampa Bay's season average.

Tampa Bay bounced back from a 36-point loss at Michigan last week.

Jordan, making his first start in a month, completed 16 of 31 passes before giving way to Mike Kelley early in the fourth quarter. He teamed with Danny Buggs on two scoring passes and also threw touchdown passes of 29 and 25 yards to Eric Truvillion and Willie Gillespie, respectively.

Tampa Bay also got 146 yards and a touchdown from Anderson, a No. 1 draft choice of the National Football League's San Diego Chargers who was playing in his fourth USFL game.

The victory gave Bandits (10-4) a half-game lead over idle Chicago in the Central Division. The Blitz, which hosts Tampa Bay next week, plays at Boston Monday night.

The 45 points is the most scored by a team in the USFL. The most before this game was 43 scored last week by the Michigan Panthers against Tampa Bay. Birmingham 3 7 0 7 17 Tampa Bay 3 21 14 7 45
