The signing of cornerback Darrell Green, the top draft pick of the Washington Redskins, will be announced in a press conference at 11:30 this morning at Redskin Park, his agent said late last night.

Carver Henry refused to discuss terms of the contract, but had said earlier it would be for five years. Green worked out at Redskin Park yesterday . . .

Jim Kelly, saying it is "very cold in Buffalo," has signed for $3.5 million with the new Houston Gamblers of the U.S. Football League. The Bills had picked him in the first round of the NFL draft.

Kelly, a record-setting passer at the University of Miami, reportedly got a $1 million bonus and will earn $500,000 a year for five seasons.

Jerry Argovitz, one of the Gamblers' owners, compared Kelly's signing to that of Joe Namath signing with the New York Jets of the old AFL.

Kelly took his college roommate, running back Mark Rush, with him. The NFL Vikings drafted Rush on the fourth round . . .

Toni Fritsch, who kicked for four NFL teams in 12 years, spent six weeks in a rehabilitation center after he "lost control and confidence" during last season's players' strike, he said. Alcohol was the problem, he said.
