Lorenzo Bundy and Marvin Clack hit home runs in a seven-run third inning and the Alexandria Dukes held on for a 10-6 Carolina League victory over the Peninsula Pilots before 477 at Four Mile Run Park last night.
Sam Khalifa led off the third with a walk and Roberto Bonilla singled before Bundy's homer gave the Dukes a 3-1 lead. With one out, a single by Jim Aulenback and two errors loaded the bases. Pete Rice hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Aulenback and sending Tomas Martinez to third. Martinez stole home and Clack followed with his first homer of the year, a two-run shot, giving Alexandria a 7-1 lead.
In the fifth, Rice singled and went to second when third baseman Rich Schu threw wild to first. Two outs later, Bonilla's single scored Rice and Bundy's double drove in Bonilla.
With a 10-2 lead, Dukes reliever Scott Bailes gave up four runs in the eighth. After retiring the first two batters, Bailes walked Kevin Walters and gave up three consecutive hits to allow three runs. Barry Seibert reached base when Bundy dropped a throw at first, allowing Schu to get an RBI single off Dorn Taylor.
