The Hagerstown Suns put the Alexandria Dukes in a hole for the third game in a row last night, scoring a run in the first inning, and went on to a 13-4 victory and a sweep of the three-game series at Four Mile Run Park.

Dukes starter Ravelo Manzanillo (3-3) walked in the first run after walking the leadoff man and hitting two of the next three batters.

Alexandria answered with a run in the second when Sam Khalifa singled in Tomas Martinez. But the Dukes trailed, 3-1, entering the sixth, when their pitching failed again.

A three-run homer by Ron Salcedo off Dukes reliever Manuel Mejia helped give the Suns an 8-1 lead in the sixth inning.

The Dukes narrowed the margin to 9-4 in the seventh on a two-run single by designated hitter Lorenzo Bundy and a sacrifice fly by Jim Aulenback.

Dukes Manager John Lipon used first baseman Nick Castaneda to pitch the last two innings and he gave up four hits and one run, while striking out two.

Dukes named to play in the Carolina League All-Star game Wednesday night at Hagerstown are catcher Ruben Rodriguez, first baseman Nick Castaneda, third baseman Jim Opie, shortstop Sam Khalifa and center fielder Nelson de la Rosa.

Alexandria pitchers Johnny Taylor, Dorn Taylor and Jim Felt were reassigned to the Pirates' AA team in Lynn, Mass.

Coming to Alexandria from Greenwood, S.C., are right-handed pitcher Dorley Downs outfielder Rafael Moncada.
