Dave Collins' one-out double, his fourth hit of the night, keyed a five-run 11th inning last night in Arlington, Tex., to help the Toronto Blue Jays snap a three-game losing streak with a 10-5 victory over the Texas Rangers.
The Blue Jays, who earlier blew a four-run lead, handed the Rangers their 13th loss in their last 16 games. Randy Moffitt (5-0) pitched two relief innings for the victory.
It was the sixth victory in six extra-inning games for the Blue Jays. "I didn't even realize we hadn't lost an extra-inning game until somebody told me," Manager Bobby Cox said. "It's just luck. I wish I could say it had something to do with the managing, but it doesn't."
With one out in the 11th, Garth Iorg singled off Dave Schmidt (2-1), Iorg went to third on a hit-and-run single to right by Alfredo Griffin and scored when Collins doubled to right-center. Griffin stopped at third on Collins' double and Rance Mulliniks drew an intentional walk to load the bases. Lloyd Moseby singled in two runs and Willie Upshaw singled in another. After Jon Matlack relieved Schmidt, Cliff Johnson walked to load the bases. Ernie Whitt drove in the fifth run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.
