Winston-Salem took advantage of Marvin Clack's throwing error to score a run in the 10th inning and earn a 4-3 victory over the Alexandria Dukes in a Carolina League game at Four Mile Run Park last night.
Dave Oliva led off the Red Sox 10th with a crisp grounder up the middle that shortstop Clack went a long way to get, but his throw bounced out of play and Oliva got to second base. Following Craig Walck's third single of the night, Dan Sheaffer delivered his second sacrifice fly of the game to score Oliva.
The Dukes threatened in the 10th, getting a single from leadoff hitter Tomas Martinez and a throwing error from pitcher Tom McCarthy on Sam Khalifa's bunt to put runners at first and second with no outs. But Clack popped out on his bunt attempt and Nelson de la Rosa lined into a double play to end the game.
Dukes reliever Scott Bailes, who allowed only one run in the eighth after entering with the bases loaded, got the loss.
Lorenzo Bundy hit a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth, his 21st of the season, to send the game into extra innings tied at 3.
