Pat Leahy's 31-yard field goal 2:15 into overtime tonight gave the New York Jets a 20-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in an NFL exhibition game.
Leahy earlier missed two attempts, including a 45-yarder with less than a minute left in regulation.
Rookie quarterback Jeff Christensen had entered the game after Cincinnati received the kickoff to start the overtime. His first pass was intercepted by Mark Jerue on the Bengals' 22-yard line.
Four plays later, Leahy kicked his winning field goal.
The Bengals are 0-3.
The Jets (2-1) had tied the score, 17-17, with 6:16 left in regulation on an eight-yard scoring pass from Pat Ryan to rookie Mike Harmon, culminating a 55-yard drive. The Jets had scored earlier on a 17-yard pass from Richard Todd to Jerome Barkum and on a 26-yard field goal by Leahy.
Todd played just over three quarters, totaling 152 yards on 14-of-22 passing. He had missed the Jets' last preseason game because of a thigh injury.
Jets running back Freeman McNeil, making his season debut, rushed 13 times for 61 yards.
The Bengals' Charles Alexander played only the first half, rushing for 90 yards in 17 carries and scoring on a two-yard run.
