Steve Chmil's home run to left field broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning and aided the Durham Bulls' 4-0 victory over the Alexandria Dukes in a Carolina League game last night at Four Mile Run Park.
Durham starter Mike Bormann held the Dukes to just three hits and Larry Moser hit a two-run homer in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Scott Borland's record dropped to 1-2 with his complete game seven-hitter.
Entering the fifth, Bormann had retired all 12 Dukes he faced and Borland had retired nine straight after a walk in the second inning. But Chmil hit Borland's second pitch over the scoreboard for his fifth game-winning RBI.
The Bulls added another run after the next batter struck out, when Moser doubled, went to third on a single by Mike Knox and scored on a sacrifice fly by Freddy Tiburcio.
Nick Castaneda finally broke up Bormann's no-hitter with a single to lead off the Dukes' fifth, but after Roberto Bonilla flied out to deep center, Burke Goldthorn hit into a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning. Bormann did not allow a runner past second base the entire game.
