Nick Castaneda's two-run, sixth-inning homer gave Alexandria a 4-2 victory in the second game as the Dukes swept a Carolina League doubleheader from the Salem Redbirds last night at Four Mile Run Park. Roberto Bonilla homered twice and Lorenzo Bundy once as the Dukes won the first game, 14-4.
With the score tied, 2-2, in the sixth inning of the second game, the Redbirds replaced starter Pat Murphy with bullpen ace Bruce Oliver. Oliver gave up a leadoff single to Jim Opie and Castaneda's one-out homer to right field.
Davey Johnson (7-5) was the winner, yielding six hits in the seven-inning game.
Bundy's homer, in the fourth inning of the first game, was his 25th this season, a team record.
The Redbirds led the first game, 2-0, in the second inning after Jose Gomez hit a two-run homer. The Dukes retaliated in the bottom of the inning, sending 11 men to bat and scoring six runs. Bonilla got the game-winning RBI with a bases-loaded walk.
He led off the fourth with a homer and Bundy hit his one out later to give the Dukes an 8-2 lead.
Pete Rice (6-11) was the winner, yielding three hits and seven walks. He struck out six to raise his season total to 101.
