Third-string tailback William Humes rushed for 161 yards on 26 carries and a score and Mark Smith caught three touchdown passes for the No. 10 Tar Heels at home.

Humes gained 123 yards in the second half after North Carolina (3-0) had taken a 31-3 lead. His score came on a 10-yard run with 40 seconds left.

Smith caught two scoring passes from quarterback Scott Stankavage, who completed nine of 13 for 176 yards, all in the first half.

Florida 17, Indiana St. 13: The No. 15 Gators, playing in a rainstorm at home, nearly were upset, but Neal Anderson rushed for 165 yards and one touchdown and Wayne Peace threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Joe Henderson with 9:22 left.

Anderson, a 208-pound sophomore, carried 26 times as he went over the 100-yard rushing mark for the fourth time in his career. His 12-yard scoring run just before halftime put Florida ahead, 10-7, but the Gators (2-0-1) needed a 13-play, 80-yard drive leading to Peace's touchdown pass to Henderson to win.

Darrold Clardy and Jeff Miller scored on short runs for the Sycamores (2-1).
