Mark Lye scored his 10th 3 of the day on the final hole for a birdie and an eight-under-par 63 that gave him a three-stroke lead yesterday in the first round of the $250,000 Pensacola (Fla.) Open PGA tournament.
Fuzzy Zoeller, who needs a tie for fourth or better to win the PGA Tour money-winning title, shot a 68. Hal Sutton finished his schedule last week and holds the money lead for the 10-month tour, $426,668 to $415,689. Zoeller received medical treatment for a chronic back problem after completing his round on the 7,093-yard Perdido Bay course . . .

The Mid-Atlantic scored when Jimmy Bellizzi and Paul Haviland defeated Henry McQuiston and Stan Dudas, 4 and 2; Rick Hughes and Fred Funk defeated Rick Osberg and Frank Dobbs, 2 and 1, and Bill Bassler and Roger Simpkins defeated Ken Perferry and Jack Connelly, 2 up. Philadelphia tied it when Dick Smith and Dick Hendrickson beat David Jimenez and Ron Kelley, 6 and 5; Gary Hardin and Harold Perry Jr. defeated Art Scott and Wheeler Stewart, 7 and 6, and Peter Oakley and Bob Hibchmann beat Woody FitzHugh and Fred Gibson, 4 and 2.
