Lorenzo Hampton ran 15 yards for a touchdown with 4:55 remaining and Bobby Raymond kicked the extra point for Florida in a Southeastern Conference game at Gainesville, Fla.
The Gators, who had lost a 14-0 first-quarter lead, drove 75 yards in 15 plays, 14 of those runs, after LSU's Jeff Wickersham's second touchdown pass gave the Bayou Bengals the lead.
Wickersham, who completed 29 of 41 passes for 271 yards, got LSU to the Gators' 24 after Florida's score, but Juan Betanzos was short on a 41-yard field goal try with 41 seconds remaining.
Freshman quarterback Kerwin Bell accounted for Florida's first two scores, scrambling nine yards on third and goal for a touchdown to end an 83-yard drive with 4:30 left in the opening quarter, and throwing a 43-yard scoring pass to Ray McDonald less than three minutes later.
Wickersham gave LSU a 21-14 lead when he hit Garry James on a 24-yard scoring pass with 11:24 left in the game and came back with a two-point conversion pass to Rogie Magee.
Wickersham threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Earl Curtis on a fourth down play in the second quarter, ending a 70-yard drive. LSU's other points came on field goals of 35 and 43 yards by Betanzos.
It was the season opener for LSU; Florida is 0-1-1.
