Fiddler's Dam held off tiring Private Gary to win the $3,000 Chronicle of the Horse Cup, the steeplechase headliner at Glenwood Park today.

"I just couldn't get to the other horse," said Private Gary's rider, D.M. (Speedy) Smithwick Jr. "He wasn't pulling me from the start. We made four or five attempts to catch up, but he just wasn't trying."

Dr. Joe Rogers' favored 10-year-old bay gelding finished half a length behind Fiddler's Dam, with Jeff Teter riding.
