In East Rutherford, N.J, Anders Hedberg scored three goals and Tomas Sandstrom two, and New York scored five times in less than eight minutes of the second period for a rout of New Jersey.
Hedberg and Sandstrom scored the final two goals of the five-goal splurge.
Hedberg scored once in each period for his third NHL hat trick. At 12 minutes of the first period, he poked in a backhander from a scramble. He scored on a two-on-one break with Mike Rogers at 15:50 of the middle period, then got his fifth goals this season 21 seconds into the final period with a short wrist shot against Ron Low, who had replaced rookie Hannu Kamppuri to start the period.
Hedberg assisted goals by Rogers, Ron Greschner and Nick Fotiu, giving him 200 assists in the NHL.
Sandstrom, a rookie right wing, opened the scoring when he poked in the rebound of his shot 4 1/2 minutes into the game. He also scored New York's ninth goal on a breakaway by putting a high shot over Kamppuri.
Peter Sundstrom, George McPhee and Dave Maloney scored the other New York goals. Greschner had a goal and three assists to give him nine points in his last three games.
The Rangers have three straight victories, in which they've scored 23 goals.
Doug Sulliman and Tim Higgins beat Rangers goalie John Vanbiesbrouck. Higgins has scored a point in all seven New Jersey games this season.
