San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. says he has lost $19.2 million on the franchise he bought for about $17 million in 1977.
"In March, I hope to ask the other owners to transfer the 49ers from my private ownership to the DeBartolo Corp.," he said. The corporation, of which DeBartolo Jr. is a 30 percent partner, is the country's largest developer of enclosed shopping malls. It is headed by Edward DeBartolo Sr., whose USFL Pittsburgh Maulers folded last week.
