Sylvia Hanika, the No. 17 computer-ranked player in the world, yesterday withdrew from the $150,000 Virginia Slims of Washington tennis tournament because of the flu.
The 32-player tournament, which begins Monday at the George Washington University Smith Center, announced its main draw yesterday with Martina Navratilova, the No. 1 computer-ranked player, the top seed. Defending champion Hana Mandlikova is seeded second.
Navratilova will play Andrea Leand of Brooklandville, Md., in the first round. Mandlikova's first-round opponent will be Marcella Mesker of The Netherlands. Kim Shaefer of Alexandria drew No. 4 seed Manuela Maleeva of Bulgaria as her opening opponent
