Junior forward Kyle Whitaker scored 16 points and had a career-high 11 rebounds as Navy won its 10th straight tonight, defeating North Carolina-Wilmington, 78-51, in an ECAC South game.

The winning streak is the longest in 38 years at the Academy. Navy (13-2, 6-0 in the ECAC South) is off to its second-best start ever.

Four Midshipmen scored in double figures, led by Vernon Butler with a game-high 20 points. Navy shot 52.7 percent while holding the Seahawks to 34.7. No Navy opponent has shot over 50 percent this season.

Wilmington led, 10-9, early in the first half before Whitaker's jump shot keyed a 12-point run that gave the Midshipmen the lead for good at 21-10 with 12 minutes remaining in the half.

Butler, a forward, scored 12 of Navy's first 20 points of the second half as the Midshipmen took a 58-36 lead at the 11:50 mark. He scored 14 points in the second half as Navy increased its lead to 33.

Sophomore center Brian Rowsom paced the Seahawks with 16 points, 14 in the first half, after which UNC-Wilmington trailed, 38-26.

The victory is Navy's second over UNC-Wilmington (7-7, 2-4) this season.
