Senior forward Lester Rowe, playing in his last game at the West Virginia University Coliseum, scored a game-high 19 points today as the Mountaineers beat George Washington, 73-63, and won the Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season title.

The Colonials, who finished the season 14-13, 9-9 in the Atlantic 10, tied for fourth with two teams and must await coin tosses to get their conference tournament seeding.

The Colonials are tied with Massachusetts, which beat Duquesne, 68-59, today, and Rutgers, which defeated Rhode Island, 71-69, in overtime.

The Mountaineers finished their season 20-7, 16-2. Temple had a chance to match that Atlantic 10 record, but lost to St. Joseph's, 70-66, tonight.

George Washington went up, 31-21, with six minutes left in the first half when Brian Butler hit a three-point shot. The Colonials led, 36-34, at intermission.

A six-point spurt early in the second half gave the Mountaineers a 46-40 lead, but George Washington came back and tied the score at 53 with 7:50 to play on Mike Brown's free throw.

George Washington, which had three players foul out and which sent West Virginia to the line 44 times, pulled to 63-59 with 2:22 to play on Brown's layup. But West Virginia made eight free throws in the next 2:06, and center Darrell Pinckney completed the scoring with a dunk with five seconds to play

The Mountaineers got 17 points from freshman Holman Harley and 13 from junior Dale Blaney.

Brown led the Colonials with 18 points and teammate Joe Wassel had 16.

West Virginia has won eight straight and 75 of its last 81 in WVU Coliseum.
