An item in yesterday's Fanfare column incorrectly identified the date of the Washington Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame induction. It is April 24.

Columbus College's athletic director, Herb Green, says it's his fault the Georgia school played one too many games and lost its chance to play in the NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament. He tearfully apologized to his players, " . . . especially the five seniors."

David Berst, the NCAA's director of enforcement, counted a scrimmage against Troy State as a 29th game because officials were hired and the score was kept. Delta State (19-10) replaces Columbus (22-6) in the 32-team field . . .

The 18-and-under Vogues AAU/USA Junior Olympic girls' team will hold tryouts at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chantilly High School. As hosts for the national tournament June 26-July 6, the Vogues have an automatic berth in the nationals.
