Florida State pitcher Doug Little set school records for most wins in a season and most career wins tonight, defeating fifth-seeded George Mason, 11-0, in the opening round of the NCAA South Region II baseball tournament.

Little, a junior, is 16-2 this season and improved his career record to 40-14.

No. 2 seed Florida State (58-21), the host team, will play Georgia Tech Friday night at Seminole Stadium. Fourth-seeded Georgia Tech defeated third-seeded Central Michigan, 7-6, earlier. Arkansas, the tournament's top seed which beat Eastern Kentucky, 20-13, will face fifth-seeded George Mason Friday in the double-elimination tournament. Eastern Kentucky will play Central Michigan Friday morning.

Friday's winners advance to Saturday's playoff, and the tournament championship will be played Sunday. The winner of the regional moves on to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., on May 30.

Patriots starter Dan Atcheson (8-4) held the Seminoles scoreless in the first before giving up a home run to Jimmy Jones in the second. Frank Fazzini drove in five runs with three hits to lead Florida State. Carlin Hart had two hits for George Mason (38-22).

In first-round NCAA East Regional games today at Columbia, S.C., Western Carolina upset top-seeded Old Dominion, 5-3, St. John's defeated Rider, 14-9, and South Carolina beat La Salle, 11-1.

With the upset, Western Carolina (36-33) will play Friday against La Salle (29-19),. St. John's (32-19) will play South Carolina (44-20) and Old Dominion (50-10) will play Rider (26-11).

In Central Region games today at Austin, Tex., Florida, Houston and Louisiana State won.
