Robin Yount hit a two-run homer and Cecil Cooper drove in three runs, two with a triple in a decisive four-run seventh inning, as Milwaukee handed visiting Minnesota its fourth straight loss.
Cooper's triple came off reliever Rick Lysander in the seventh inning and gave Milwaukee a 7-4 lead. Yount followed with a walk and Ted Simmons a run-scoring single to chase Lysander. One out later, Bobby Clark singled off Frank Eufemia for a run and a 9-4 lead.
Kirby Puckett's two-run double and Kent Hrbek's RBI single chased reliever Bob McClure in the eighth. Rollie Fingers finished up for his sixth save as the Brewers won their fifth game in six.
The Brewers scored twice off Pete Filson (2-1) in the first when Charlie Moore singled and Yount got his fifth homer of the season.
Minnesota came back with a run in the second on Randy Bush's homer off Moose Haas. It was his fifth of the year.
Clark led off the Brewers' second with a double and scored on Paul Molitor's single.
Gary Gaetti tied the game, 4-4, in the sixth inning with his seventh homer, but the Brewers went ahead, 5-4, in the bottom of the sixth on Mark Brouhard's triple and Clark's sacrifice fly.
