Dave Kennard's ground ball through the legs of Prince William third baseman Dimas Gutierrez scored Dan Odgers in the 10th inning to give the Peninsula Pilots a 5-4 victory over the Pirates last night in a Carolina League game at Prince William County Stadium in Woodbridge.

After striking out the first two batters in the 10th, losing pitcher Ben Morrow walked Odgers before Ray Roman singled. Kennard grounded sharply to third but Gutierrez let the ball go through his legs.

Morrow (0-2) pitched three innings, striking out three.

The Pirates tied the game at 4 in the eighth. Barry Bonds singled, stole second and went to third on catcher Roman's throwing error. Bonds scored on a fielder's choice by Gutierrez.

Prince William took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Bonds and Burk Goldthorn singled. One out later, Gutierrez singled to center to drive in Bonds, but Goldthorn was thrown out trying to advance to third. Gutierrez, who had taken second on the throw, scored on Ron DeLucchi's single.

But the Pilots added two runs in the fifth. Graylyn Engram singled, went to third on right fielder Frank Klopp's error and scored on Fernando Soto's sacrifice fly. Wayne Dannenberg's seventh home run of the season gave the Pilots a 3-2 lead.
