Minnesota North Stars -- Signed LW George Servinis, who scored Rensselaer Poly's winning goal in the NCAA championship game against Providence; opted not to match Detroit Red Wings' offer to D Harold Snepsts, 30 (seven assists, 232 penalty minutes in his only North Stars season).

San Antonio Spurs -- Signed 7-foot-1 Mike Brittain, second-round draftee from South Carolina. JURISPRUDENCE

Cincinnati -- Six men accused of scheming to fix horse races pleaded innocent at arraignments in U.S. District Court. The six are among 15 men -- mostly in harness racing -- indicted June 28 by federal grand juries in Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo, culminating a three-year FBI undercover operation involving tracks in Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and Canada.
