New York Islanders -- Announced RW Anders Kallur, a six-year veteran, has been given his unconditional release. FOOTBALL
San Diego Chargers -- Announced WR Trumaine Johnson, a holdout during the current U.S. Football League season because of a contract dispute, has signed with the NFL team. Johnson, who played two seasons with Chicago and Arizona of the USFL, apparently had to pay $500,000 for his freedom, $250,000 of which came from a signing bonus given him by the Chargers.
Cincinnati Bengals -- S Bryan Hicks said he is retiring to enter business.
Cleveland Browns -- Announced University of Washington QB Paul Sicuro has passed up his final year of college eligibility and signed two one-year free-agent contracts; said starting DE Keith Baldwin has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and will miss about four weeks of training camp.
USFL Awards -- Announced Herschel Walker of the New Jersey Generals, named the league's MVP last week, was named running back of the year and received a third award as the league's top scorer. Rollie Dotsch of the Birmingham Stallions was named coach of the year and Jim Kelly of the Houston Gamblers was named quarterback of the year.
