Brett batted .482 in July and raised his average for the season to .353. He hit seven homers, drove in 24 runs and had a slugging percentage of .726. Saberhagen was 5-1, allowing 11 earned runs and 39 hits to the 183 batters he faced. He had a 2.05 ERA for the month, striking out 35 and walking four, with two complete games.
