Jimmy Bellizzi, a Middle Atlantic PGA life member, played even par golf through 29 holes at Goose Creek and won the MAPGA Senior and Quarter Century championships. In the Quarter Century, Bellizzi tied with fellow life member Henry Gerardi at 73 for 18 holes and won with a birdie on the second playoff hole. The Senior was at 27 holes, and Bellizzi was low with 109 to 110 for Mac Main of Farmville, Va. Bellizzi and Jennings House of Red Wing Lake, also with 73 for the first 18, qualified for the National PGA Seniors Qualifying Tournament next February in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. . . .

Moss Beecroft of Newport News, appearing in his first Virginia State Seniors, played the Lower Cascades course at Hot Springs in par 72 to pace a field of 95 in the first day of qualifying. One stroke back came Lexington left-hander Blair Nicely, winner in 1982; Jim Gunn of Arlington and Guido Cavallo of Reston had 75s. Best on the more difficult Cascades course were 80s by William Meredith and Lewis Russell, both of Arlington.

Entrants switch courses today, the 15 low scorers for the two days joining defending champion Bob Lewis of Fairfax in match play Friday . . .

Mike Watson of Rockville defeated Bowie's Jason Raivel, 3 and 1, in the morning and Lutherville's David Patterson in the afternoon, 6 and 4, to win the Maryland Junior Open at Glenn Dale.
