Detroit Lions -- Signed ex-Michigan Panther CB Clarence Chapman to a free-agent contract and waived veteran CB Al Latimer and rookie TE Burt Muehling.

New York Jets -- Claimed T Sid Abramowitz, who was waived Tuesday by Seattle, and signed free agent T Steve August, who was released last week by Pittsburgh. Waived free agent T John Kasperski and put LB Troy Benson on injured reserve.

San Francisco 49ers -- Picked RB Roosevelt Snipes from Florida State, who was scholastically ineligible to compete in college football this year, in a special National Football League supplemental draft. Snipes was taken on the eighth round of the draft, meaning the 49ers will not have an eighth-round pick in the NFL draft next spring.
