Houston Oilers -- QB Oliver Luck to injured reserve, broken bone in lower left leg; QB Brian Ransom recalled.

Miami Dolphins -- CB John Swain claimed off Minnesota Vikings waivers; NT George Little out of opener (knee).

ew York Giants -- Rookie WR Stacy Robinson broke his left hand in practice, placed on four-week IR; DB Larry Flowers recalled.

New York Jets -- DE Mark Gastineau's right hand swelled severely when a pin was removed from the thumb he broke last month and he will not be available for the opener.

San Diego Chargers -- DB Ronnie O'Bard recalled, C Rich Umphrey signed; DB Terry Lewis, RB Buford McGee to IR.

Seattle Seahawks -- P Jeff West recalled; RB Owen Gill, team's top 1985 draftee (second round), waived. BASEBALL

Cleveland Indians -- 1B Pat Tabler (.275 in 117 games) will have torn cartilage in his left knee arthroscopically repaired today, likely miss rest of the season.

Philadelphia Phillies -- OF Greg Gross (.262 in 92 games) through for season, broken little finger on left hand.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Ended affiliation with Kinston of Class A Carolina League.

American League -- 1B Don Mattingly and LHP Dave Righetti of the New York Yankees are player and pitcher of the month for August. Mattingly hit .390 with 11 home runs, 26 RBI; Righetti was 5-0 with five saves.

National League -- St. Louis CF Willie McGee, who batted .436 in August, is player of the month; Philadelphia pitcher Shane Rawley, 4-0, 1.72 ERA, pitcher of the month.
