National League -- Named Gary Carter of the New York Mets, who hit five homers in back-to-back games, player of week.

American League -- Named Lloyd Moseby of the Toronto Blue Jays, who hit .435 and had five homers, player of week.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Disclosed the final two players they obtained from Los Angeles for Bill Madlock, completing Aug. 31 deal. In addition to OF R.J. Reynolds, the Pirates will acquire contracts of 1B Sid Bream and utility man Cecil Espy. COLLEGES ECAC -- Navy linebacker Vince McBeth was named conference's defensive player of week for helping hold North Carolina to 63 yards rushing in Navy's 21-19 loss; McBeth had 17 tackles. West Virginia's John Holifield was offensive player of the week after gaining 177 yards and scoring three touchdowns in 52-13 victory over Louisville.

North Carolina State -- Confirmed an earlier report that four freshmen, including highly recruited basketball player Charles Shackleford, will not participate in sports the fall semester so they can improve their academic standings. The others were not identified. HOCKEY New York Rangers -- Signed D Terry Carkner, their top choice in the entry draft.

New York Islanders -- Traded RW Mats Hallin to the Minnesota North Stars for future considerations.
