George Mason Beats UNC
Sam Sumo and Frank Paciolla scored two goals each as George Mason defeated North Carolina, 4-1, yesterday in the final of the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax.
It was the Patriots' seventh straight win. Sumo's goals were his 11th and 12th of the season.
Paciolla put the Patriots ahead, 1-0, when he knocked in a deflection at 25:40. He scored his second goal 10 minutes later when he converted a cross from Mike Reynolds, heading it into the right corner.
North Carolina is 5-2. Catholic 1, Mount St. Mary's 1: Ron Brigerman scored on a penalty kick at 76 to give host Mount St. Mary's a tie. Catholic's Tom Pauley, a senior fullback, scored his first collegiate goal nine minutes earlier on an assist from John Miller. Georgetown 3, Manhattan 0: Mario Ortega and Mike Graziano scored within a minute in the first half to lead the Hoyas (2-4) in the second round of the Iona Classic. Zeid Masri scored at 48:52. Mont.-Rockville 4, Brookdale (N.J.) 3: Ed Bouscaren and Kingsley Chukwu scored two goals within five minutes in the second half as the Knights rallied from a 2-2 tie to defeat host Brookdale.
