Le Beep Beep heads a field of eight 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings in the $190,075 final of the Presidential Series at Rosecroft Raceway Saturday night.

Although the entries in the Presidential have performed in above-average fashion, the best freshman colts skipped the series in favor of other stakes events around the country.

Le Beep Beep is the favorite off his victory in the Presidential elimination last week in 1:58 4/5, just one-fifth second off the Rosecroft track record for 2-year-old colts.

Le Beep Beep is trained by Joe Caraluzzi and is driven by Mickey McNichol. Friends since their youth in New York, Caraluzzi and McNichol have become one of the top trainer-driver teams in harness racing.

Le Beep Beep won two races in early June, then suffered a minor injury and has had trouble until recently. In the Potomac Stakes at Freestate in late July, Caraluzzi said Le Beep Beep "just wasn't any good," finishing last in the first division.

But the Presidential may have a happier ending for Le Beep Beep.

"He's gotten a lot sounder," said Caraluzzi. "He's starting to jell . . . With a little luck, we'll be right there."

Le Beep Beep drew the middle, No. 5 post for the final.

Also racing will be Falcon Bret, Uncut Jade, Audubon Hanover, P F Kass, Mr Rodeo Drive, Sweeping Victory and Boulder Hanover.
